Lots of stuff going on this week at a lot of different places. I'm looking for some Mattifest feedback. The page views have dwindled over the last few weeks. What do you like? What do you want to see more of? What could you do without? My goal is to keep all my schools informed and moving forward even though my time for each has been reduced or nearly eliminated. Submit your feedback and you might win a prize!Current #VikingCat Score: West 36, Smithton 28. I have signs at my desk that you can post for an easy 10 points...
Have you tried...
- Pear Deck Vocabulary? A fun and interactive way for students to work in pairs to create definitions of vocab words. Content exports to Quizlet for study. First person at West or Smithton to ask me about it gets 5 #VikingCat points. First to use it gets 20. Thanks to Ryan Pingrey for this hot tip.
Cool stuff happening in my classrooms (and can also happen in yours)...
- Shelli Thelen is using Flipgrid. This tool lets students record short videos to "grids" created by teachers. They can then watch and give feedback to their classmates (but only if you allow it). In this picture, students are submitting information about their Revolutionary War books. Let me know and I'll help you get started.
- Heidi Barnhouse doesn't know it, but I got to bother several of her students who were working in the hall. They were analyzing and marking up a real-world scenario using Notability and then putting their responses on a collaborative Google Doc. Very cool!
Building your digital PLN...
- Mike Hall, @mrhallSTEM - Mike is part of the team that supports Gentry and Jeff Middle Schools. He has great updates and tutorials published through S'Mores.
- Kristin Ziemke, @KristinZiemke - Kristin is a classroom teacher and author with TONS of fantastic tips for digital teaching and learning. A must follow.
- Wonderopolis, @Wonderopolis - Website devoted to fostering curiosity, inquiry, and discovery. Excellent articles and "wonders of the day".
Tech updates that might interest you...
- The new Google integration with Schoology does work with Slides and Sheets. Yeah!
- Getting errors using Smart Notebook's ClassLab tools? Try closing and restarting the notebook file or log out and back in to the account. That seems to fix most issue.
- Schoology's enhanced question types are out, but we haven't activated them yet because there are some bugs to work out. Look for documentation in the coming weeks.
- Get those iPad updated to iOS11.
Thanks, and have a great weekend!
